Artist & Teacher - Oil, Acrylic & Mixed Media
Meera's art is inspired by nature, memories of her native India and world travels. Largely self-taught, Meera has been painting for almost three decades and also teaches painting. She has dabbled with many mediums but now primarily works with oil, acrylic & mixed media. A three month youth expedition to China with Raleigh International was a major turning point in her life, encouraging her to quit her accounting job in Dubai and enter the field of corporate communications. Even as she switched gears & moved countries, her art stayed with her and, was a constant source of inspiration. Later, when she chose to stay home to raise her children, she breathed new life into her art as a second innings of her career. "Mine is definitely a tale of two states (of mind) - my life as an American and my Indian roots. Mostly images of nature & people become subjects of my paintings and I gravitate toward them in the first place due to a connect to the verve and vibrancy of India. Sometimes, issues I feel strongly about occupy my head space and ultimately a canvas - in an abstract or contemplative form." Through her art, Meera offers her worldview and a narrative of her Indian heritage and culture. Her paintings are routinely juried into prominent exhibits in New Jersey, Westchester, and Fairfield counties. Whether it’s starting a new painting or teaching, Meera hopes to always treat her art like an amateur - to work on each piece with the same verve, openness, wonder & curiosity of a beginner.
